Sin originally came about with Lucifer. Ezekiel 28:11-15. Man was later tempted by Satan (Lucifer - see the Angelology page) and mankind, disobeying God, was estranged from it's Creator,
Many would say that man is basically good. That is not what God says. Read the book of Genesis and you'll see man's first envy and then murder (Cain killing Abel) Genesis 4:3-8, mans great wickedness which brought on the flood, Genesis 6:5. The many people's who sacrificed their children to false gods, Deuteronomy 18:10, Ezekiel 16:20-21. The lust of man as seen in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Genesis 19:1-7 and has only increased over the ages.
What does the history of the world tell you of man's state? With all his technological advances, man's basic nature remains. Mankind is continously warring with one another. James 4:1-4
Man may be seen as 'good' if comparing man to man, but when comparing man to God - Romans 8:7.
Because man is spiritually dead, he is incapable of responding to God. Romans 3:9-13. He does not understand spiritual things 1 Corinthians 2:12-13. Apart from God's intervention, man is eternally separated!
